Arbor Bug Long Board Review

About The Arbor Bug Long Board
The Arbor Bug is a shorter longboard (36") specially designed by Arbor for female riders. The smaller size is more manageable, and the shape makes a great transition between regular skateboarding and long boarding. What I found, however, is that the Arbor Bug isn't just fun for girls - anyone will enjoy the maneuverability and style of this board. I took the Bug and hit the streets for a couple of weeks.
Cornering on the Bug was just incredible, even at high speeds. It felt so awesome flying down a hill and going around a ninety degree corner. That's when I new I could trust the gel wheels, and that's when I really liked having a strong board under my feet instead of a flexible board with no shape.
BugThe awesome concave on this board also played a huge role. I'm going to say that that’s what really held me to the board and gave me that much control. I also like that the Bug has a tail, it gave me more control and comfort. A tail is also good for sudden turns when just cruising around town.
If I could improve anything on this board it would be... I actually can’t think of anything to improve this board to fit my style. It’s just the perfect longboard for me.
I Rate The Board 5/5

Earth Wing Supermodel Longboard Review

About The Earth wing Supermodel Long Board
If you’re currently in the market for a “free ride” deck- something well suited for standup slides and the like, a lot of options are open to you with plenty of decisions to be made. You’d typically want to look for a skateboard with the following three elements: a large standing platform, generous concave, and sound design.
The Earth wing Supermodel meets the aforementioned criteria, but it also adds fourth element into the mix: low price. With its $99 price point the Earth wing Supermodel is one of the lowest priced free ride decks on the market. But does the low price come at a cost? Read on to find out…
About the Deck:
The Earth wing Supermodel is an all maple deck which comes in two sizes: a 38" version and a 40" version. The 38" version is only available in 8 ply while the 40" version comes in both 8 and 9ply. Think of plies as wooden layers glued together-the more you have, the stiffer and stronger a deck becomes, with the downside being added weight. For this review we set foot on an 8ply 40" Supermodel, painted deep blue (each size/ply variation has a unique color).
Earth Wing  Supermodel Specs:
  • 40” Long with variable elliptical concave (more on this later)
  • 10 3/8” at its widest point (2/3” concave)
  • 9 3/4” at the waist (5/8” concave)
  • 26.25” standing platform with a 30.5” wheelbase (measured from inner hole to inner hole)
  • Built in rail channels (more on this later)
  • Old school and New School mounting

First Impressions:
Sadly, the Supermodel experienced bite issues off the bat with Randal trucks and 70mm Orangutan Stimulus. Earth wing mentioned that the Supermodel’s wheelbase was stretched from previous versions to limit wheel bite issues with Randal/Paris trucks, but this didn’t seem to be the case. We switched out to Bear trucks and the bite issues went away. There was even less chance of bite with Indy 215’s. Compared to Randals, both Bear and Indy Trucks increase axle to axle wheelbase, therefore lessening the chance of wheel bite. It is for this reason we highly recommend running the Supermodel with either Bear or Indy Trucks off the bat
Sliding
For sliding (both hands down and standup), we rode the deck with Bear 852’s and Independent 215s-in general, wider trucks make for smoother slides. The Supermodel was built with standup sliding in mind (it’s billed as a DH free ride deck by Earth wing) and so its symmetrical shape contains deeper concave in the front and rear compared to the middle (unlike the mystery model).
In general, standup slides on the Supermodel were a breeze to pull off. The elliptical concave swallowed our size 10.5 feet and didn’t let go until we were done sliding, continuously ensuring a lack of any slippage during standup slides, which should come as a relief to many. Personally speaking however, we feel that the concave is a bit too deep in the front and rear of the deck. Hanging the foot over the deck heelside is no problem, but when it comes to initiating toeslide slides, you want to position the toes of your rear foot over the edge of the deck-and this was somewhat of a nuisance to pull off with such a wide deck containing steep concave. We say nuisance instead of problem because of a fair certainty that many riders won’t even find this to be an issue.
As for hands down sliding, the ample standing platform ensured we remained on the deck during pendy’s, colemans, 360 pressure spins- you name it. No complaints here, as the design of the Supermodel is solid for all sorts of sliding, and success is highly dependent on rider skill.

Bustin Boards Strike Long Board Review

Bustin Boards Strike Review
Bustin Boards Strike is a new cruiser style longboard skateboard, made with drop-through trucks and a low profile, the Bustin Boards Strike is a multi discipline skateboarding machine. Personally, I loved it, and I think there are plenty of reasons that you might want one too.
Bustin sent me a Strike to try out, and I really enjoyed it. The ride was smooth and sweet, with a GREAT reaction. The sweetest part is the Strike's turns. I don't think I've ever been able to cut sharper on any other longboard.
Bustin just makes sweet boards!
Personally, I like the Strike for cruising, but from what I hear it's a great board for racing. It's a versatile size and shape, and the depth of your stance and the depth you can cut (with no chance of wheel bite) make the strike a define keeper.
Bustin Strike Stats
  • Starts at $220
  • Length: 38 inches
  • 8 ply deck
  • Canadian maple
  • Super customizable online
  • Several graphic design options

Bustin Strike Technology
There you have my opinions, but some hard science hides behind the Strike's style. Bustin Boards put a lot of work into designing this board.
  • The angle of the truck mounts have been carefully engineered to give a great turning radius - they claim it's the best in the industry.
  • Bustin tested the Strike through a full year of having team riders test it out. Apparently, this was all done in New York City, and the Strike got popular even before it was released!
  • The Strike is also made out of Canadian maple, harvested from a sustainable forests.
This is just a little bit of the tech behind and in the Bustin Boards Strike. It all adds up to a sweet ride - I sure like the one I got to test out!
Bustin Boards Strike - the Final Word
Basically, I'm telling you that I really like the Strike. It's a lot of fun to ride, versatile, low, and turns on a dime. If you are looking for a board that can be ridden both casually and that can also handle more aggressive downhill, try out the Strike.

Loaded Vanguard Longboard Review

About The Loaded Vanguard
The first thing that will jump out at you is the hyper aggressive arch on the spine of this board, convex camber accents the gently con caved rails, giving the deck the appearance of a board ready to spring. The wheels, sit on trucks mounted at the very edged of the decks nose and tail, aggressive swept in rails meet the mounting points of the nose and tail, bringing to mind images of a drag pacer with its paws down to the ground gripping the pavement. Flipped on its back a simple graphic adorns its belly. The price tag is $300 for a complete off the loaded website.
This board when it came out and even now is unique in so many ways, initially developed with oak it now is constructed with a vertical laminate, but this board; although green may be a consideration is actually a serious combination of thought and technique. The board itself was initially built around the truck and wheel setup that it first ran with, this gave the board a very unique and distinct riding style. A feeling of compression and grip allowed the rider an entirely new skating style. Coming in 5 flexes in two sizes give the many board rider body types, and flex preferences the chance to get exactly the ride out of the Vanguard they wanted. This propelled and advanced riding styles that few boards could or can emulate. The vertical laminate bamboo construction is sandwiched with triaxial fiberglass and the entire construction process is focused on waste loss and eco friendly methods. The earth friendly construction methods do nothing to dampen the boards progressive flex and do everything to let the rider know Loaded is doing everything to be kind to the earth and the stoke. The load on the earth is lightened and so is the weight of the board, the Vanguard for its size class is one of the lightest boards around. Loaded has a slogan “without love our boards would break” and this shows with Loaded riders. Loaded riders tend to be some of the most dedicated and enthusiastic skaters in regards to the products that Loaded delivers to them and their loyalty to them.
The Vanguard stands in the Top 10 Longboards for bringing a truly innovative riding style to long boarding. In a market full of gimmick setups and throw away boards Loaded created something truly original and impressively inspired. When you step on a Vanguard you are met with a board that is willing to do whatever you want to, the streets the limit and the board is ready to challenge it. You are limited only by your imagination and cajones. The Vanguard has gone through minimal changed in its life, graphics and setup have been tweaked and the Oak was replaced with Bamboo. Nothing has changed in the quality, feel, and pleasure of riding one of the most unique boards available today.

Loaded Dervish Longboard Review

About The Loaded Dervish
The Loaded Dervish is a bamboo longboard designed to get you the most dynamic, all-around action possible. With the Dervish's flex and low center of gravity, combined with a clever truck mounting design, you can really dig in and bend this board to whatever it is you want to do. Bowls to hill bombing, and even tricks, the Loaded Dervish really does it all.
Loaded Dervish Design
Loaded has produced several different styles of longboard carvers. The Dervish is easily one of the best they've produced to date. A lot of thought went into this baby, and you can see it just by looking at it! But, let me break down the technical side of the Loaded Dervish for you:
  • Length - 41.5"
  • Width - 8.5"
  • Wheelbase - 33"
  • Weight - 7 pounds complete (2.75 lbs deck only)
  • Deck is a vert-lam bamboo core between epoxy and tri-axle fiberglass layers
  • Available in two flexes, to cover riders from 100 to 230 pounds
  • Deck works with a variety of trucks
Test Riding The Dervish
Test riding boards is easily one of the coolest parts about writing up a review!  For hill carving, I thought it was perfect, especially with the flex and the way the trucks that came with the board handled turning.  With the upwards curve of the Loaded Dervish, you can dig in so much more.
For cruising, the Loaded Dervish was good and solid.I couldn't think of anything bad to say about it at all. I thought it was one of the most comfortable rides I've ever enjoyed. I really enjoyed being able to spring in and out of turns. Since I usually ride a regular skateboard, it's things like this that really set apart longboards and cruisers for me. If I'm going to be riding this board to get places, or to enjoy a soulful slope, I want to feel the board respond to me. The Loaded Dervish does just that.

Final Words on the Loaded Dervish
I would easily recommend the Loaded Dervish. To anyone. The way it can be ridden comfortably and confidently on just about anything makes it a board for pretty much any rider.
The only way I wouldn't recommend a Dervish is if you are shopping for a board to do one particular thing, and that thing is flying down hills at ludicrous speeds. In that case, you would want a larger, more stable board. Or, if you want to only ride in skate parks and pools all the time, then you might want to get a regular skateboard (I was going to say "something smaller", but honestly, just get a regular skateboard!).
But for a good all-around longboard, I don't know of another board to recommend above the Loaded Dervish right now. You'll love it.
I Rate The Board 5/5
